Estrogenic chemicals are everywhere…
Even in places that you would have never imagined (and can’t avoid) — like toothpaste, deodorant, shaving cream, toilet paper and so many more. We’re living in a time when they’re nearly impossible to play “keep away” from. And these estrogenic chemicals are wreaking havoc on our testosterone levels day in and day out.
And if that weren’t frustrating enough, one of the worst things I’ve discovered after almost a decade of testosterone research, is there are health supplements on the market today, that swing an axe at your testosterone levels — because they also contain estrogenic chemicals.
In this article, I’m going to expose 4 of the worst ones and why you should stay away from them. Plus, I’ll show you a scientifically proven way (that’s helping thousands of men all over the world) to protect your body from estrogenic chemicals and boost testosterone at the same time.
These days, you see flaxseed everywhere in supplements. The reason is because flaxseed contains high levels of Omega 3 fatty acids, which is not a bad thing. However, it’s still an ingredient you must avoid as a man.
Flaxseed contains a high concentration of a compound called lignan. A study from the University of Helsinki found lignan has high levels of estrogen and can also decrease testosterone levels. But that isn’t all. Lignans can suppress the enzyme 5-a, which is an important factor in helping testosterone convert into its most powerful form — dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
The way doctors discovered this is a bit odd.
There’s a rare condition called hirsutism that affects some populations of women. The disease consists of an excessive amount of hair growth in their bodies. Women with hirsutism have high levels of androgen hormone, so doctors recommended women with this condition to take small doses of flaxseeds every day (30g), and the results showed there was a 70% drop of testosterone.
Another study from Duke University Medical Center also found flaxseed reduced testosterone levels in 25 men with prostate cancer. After being given flaxseed supplementation, the men’s free androgen index dropped from 36% to 29%.
Green tea is another popular ingredient in supplements because it has some health benefits. It’s rich in vitamin C and high in antioxidants — which can be helpful for hormonal balance. Still, when it comes to green tea, the BAD outweighs the good for your testosterone levels.
A group of researchers from the University College of Science and Technology conducted a study to test the effects of green tea on men’s testosterone levels. They divided the men into four groups and gave them different doses of green tea every day for 26 days.
– One group was given 5 cups of green tea per day.
– Another group was given 10 cups of green tea per day.
– The “high level” group was given 20 cups of green tea per day.
– And the last one, the control group, wasn’t given any green tea.
The results were significant.
The group that received the highest intake of green tea had a considerable decrease in the size of their testicles. They also had a reduction in their serum testosterone: 25% for the first group, and 70% in the group with the highest doses.
I bet you all enjoy the fresh flavor and smell of mint… especially in a stick of gum or toothpaste.
There are several variations of the mint family that you’ve probably used until now — but the most common ones are peppermint and spearmint. And these ingredients are known to decrease testosterone levels significantly.
A study from the Eastbourne District General Hospital showed subjects experienced a significant decrease in testosterone once they started to drink mint tea for 30 days. By the final day of the study, they suffered from a 30% drop of testosterone in their bodies.
In other words, your body will pay a big price if you take a daily supplement full of mint. You may even want to consider spitting out your chewing gum and finding a mint alternative to avoid accidently dropping your T-count.
Alfalfa is an ingredient mostly used in supplements because it lowers cholesterol and helps with blood sugar control. But that doesn’t mean it’s going to improve testosterone health.
Alfalfa contains a compound called phytoestrogens…
As you can guess by the name, phytoestrogens (which simply means “plant estrogens”) play a very similar role as the other estrogenic supplement ingredients on this page. and it’s also present in soy-based products.
It’s no mystery that phytoestrogens like alfalfa can do your testosterone levels harm. For example, a study published in the Journal of Steroid Biochemistry proved that phytoestrogens trigger a process called aromatase… which actually converts your hard-earned testosterone into estrogen.
This is worst-case scenario for men looking to improve testosterone levels and have a higher quality of life. Avoid alfalfa at all costs.
